What to Expect
As a patient of Dr. Zashin’s, you can expect a high level of care from a pre-eminent Rheumatologist who spends significant time getting to know you. You’ll find a friendly staff who is eager to help you. You’ll notice many conveniences, too, from prompt availability of appointments and on-site lab services to paid parking (simply bring your voucher with you and we’ll validate it). From your first phone call to your nth follow-up visit, you’ll see that Dr. Zashin and his staff always make you their priority.
Dr. Zashin does not participate in insurance plans or Medicare at this time. Dr. Zashin became a doctor due to the personal satisfaction of helping people with their medical issues. He enjoys spending time with his patients which is important when trying to obtain an accurate diagnosis and recommend the safest and most effective therapy. Dr. Zashin tries to hire the most competent employees. Many of his staff have worked with him for over 20 years and most of his clinical staff are registered nurses. When you become a patient of Dr. Zashin, you will realize that he respects your time. You can expect to be seen and have your calls returned promptly. Due to significant reductions by insurance companies in their reimbursements, Dr. Zashin stopped participating with insurance networks over 15 years ago. He did this so as to provide his patients with a higher level of service that was not possible by participating in insurance networks. (After each visit, patients are given the necessary paper work to seek reimbursement from their insurance company if they have out of network benefits).
If you choose Dr. Zashin as your Rheumatologist, he will leave no stone unturned in trying to obtain a diagnosis and help your symptoms. He is open to alternative therapies if conventional treatments are not helpful or if clinically indicated. Blood work is typically ordered to help confirm a diagnosis and guide therapy. The cost of laboratory tests for rheumatic diseases can be expensive, but is included in the price of the consultation. Dr. Zashin will call each patient personally after the first visit with the results of the testing instead of requiring patients to return to the office to receive their lab results. This saves the patient time and expense and enables patients to get this important information as soon as possible.
Your First Visit
Allow 75 minutes for your first appointment. Your appointment may be longer or shorter depending upon the discussion and any questions you may have for Dr. Zashin. If you haven’t yet filled out the New Patient Information Packet, plan to arrive 30-45 minutes before your appointment to complete this paperwork.
Your appointment begins in Dr. Zashin’s office, where you will talk about your medical history, and your treatment goals. You’ll then go to an exam room, where you’ll meet some of our nursing staff. Dr. Zashin will join you and complete a physical assessment of your joints. He may order X-rays and lab tests, which are done in the office. Finally, you and Dr. Zashin will talk about his observations and treatment options. He welcomes your questions about your symptoms and treatment concerns and goals.
Within one week, Dr. Zashin will
personally call you to discuss the results
of your lab tests. Please do not hesitate to
call us if you have not received a call or
letter within 10 days of any test ordered by
Dr. Zashin. Of course, you should call the
office any time you have a concern or
question about your treatment, or if your
symptoms change or worsen.
